LET US FEEL THE LIGHT OF MUHAMMAD

THE KHATME-I KHWAJAGAN

LET US FEEL THE MUHAMMADAN LIGHT

The noble Khatme is performed at least once a week, preferably on Friday night—that is, on the night connecting Thursday to Friday—after the ‘Isha prayer. Those who cannot perform it at that time may do so up to 45 minutes after the Fajr prayer.

Those who have more time may perform this remembrance daily in the same manner. Indeed, those who wish and have the time may even perform it twice daily—once after the Asr prayer and once after the ‘Isha prayer.

To receive the Muhammadan light flowing from heart to heart into one’s own heart requires opening one’s inner being. If the heart is receptive towards the people of spiritual meaning, then the light flowing from them will naturally stream into the heart that opens itself.

When people gather to perform the Khatme collectively, if the group is fewer than 10 people, they divide among themselves and recite Surah al-Fatiha at least 7 times, while the other required recitations are shared equally. If there are more than 10 participants, each person recites Surah al-Fatiha once, and the other litanies are recited 10 times each per person, until the total prescribed number of recitations is completed.

Afterward, a supplication is made to gift the multiplied reward of the recitation. While making the du‘a or reciting the litanies, if one does not know them by heart, one may open the eyes and read from the text, mentioning the names of those to whom the reward is being gifted.

When offering the reward to the friends of Allah, each name should be mentioned with reverence, as if that person were present, and then the prescribed prayer for them should be made before moving on to the next name.

Thus, the door of our heart will open, and our face will turn towards the stream of divine light.

LET US SAY FROM THE DEPTHS OF OUR HEART…

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm. Al-ḥamdu lillāhi rabbi l-‘ālamīn waṣ-ṣalātu wa s-salāmu ‘alā sayyidinā Muḥammad wa ‘alā ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi ajma‘īn.

“Allāhumma yā muftih al-abwāb, yā musabbib al-asbāb, yā muqallib al-qulūb wa l-abṣār, yā dalīl al-mutaḥayyirīn, yā ğiyāth al-mustaghīthīn, ighithnī, tawakkaltu ‘alayka yā Rabbī, wa fawwaḍtu amrī ilayka, yā Fettāḥ yā Wahhāb yā Bāsiṭ. Wa ṣallallāhu ‘alā khayri khalqihi sayyidinā Muḥammad wa ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi ajma‘īn.”
